In the late 1970s a new and
unusual form of balloon decorating was introduced to the special
events scene. The creation was the balloon arch, developed by Los Angeles artist
Treb Heining.
The arch, with its seemingly magical spiral pattern and molecular symmetry,
became a national
sensation that has, over the course of twenty years, become a classic element in
special event
decorating.
The development of the arch lead
to a gallery of balloon creations, as artists shared and transformed
each others creations. What had originally been forecasted as a fad developed
into an industry.
America was the birthplace of the balloon renaissance, but the appeal of this
art form has
transcended borders. Today, balloon decorating is an international industry.
